IC
Name: Luna
Canon: Zero Escape
Canon Point: Post Luna END
Age: Early 20s
Gender: Female
Species: GAULEM (General-purpose AUtonomous-Control Labor Electronic Machine)
Appearance: Here; in general GAULEMs look like this, but Luna was given Artificial Biological Tissue (basically artificial skin) so she would look like an ordinary human instead of a robot.

History/Background: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward permise, Luna at the Zero Escape wiki
Personality:
Luna, a GAULEM who happened to be a participant in a life-threatening Nonary Game: Ambidex Edition, is surely more human than some of the participants who would trick, betray or even kill other people taking part in the game. While pretending to be an ordinary woman, Luna supervised the game from the inside and cooperated with the game’s masterminds who she had to obey unconditionally. Moreover, as a machine, she has to follow Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, namely:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

There's also a zeroth law, the one of which Luna was unaware of, but she was programmed to follow it as well:

0. A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.

Those laws explain most, if not all of her actions. Due to the first law, Luna simply can't betray her opponents in the AB games, as it would mean putting their lives in danger. She also made sure that Quark (infected with Radical-6 virus) would remain unharmed and put him into a treatment pod to stop his illness from getting worse. When it comes to the second law, even if she didn’t agree with her superiors, she would obey their orders anyway. Well, actually, she was against the whole idea of letting Dio kill the first person who would escape the AB room so he could take their spot. She wanted to help that person, but she was deactivated to ensure that she wouldn't meddle with the original plan (preparing the Nonary Game took many years, after all). Not obeying them meant having processors shut down which is synonymous with death to her. The third law, Luna obeyed when she struggled with Clover who was holding an injection gun with a muscle relaxant inside (it wouldn't kill Luna, but no one knew that; on the other hand, it caused her skin to crumble later on) and accidentally injected her with it. The zeroth law is the most tricky one, especially since she didn't know that she had been coded with it. However, without knowing it, she was following it too, for example, when she let Dio kill Akane—Dio had to take part in the game and there was no other way to let him do it. And if that didn't happen, the project wouldn't be successful.

That said, more than just a robot, Luna is an artificial intelligence who developed a character and emotions on her own. Nobody could even suspect her of being something other than a woman kidnapped by Zero for no apparent reason, which is the best proof how many human traits she possesses. Despite being in such an extreme situation, Luna still managed to be a kind, gentle and trusting person, who would always opt for the best result for everyone. For that reason, she never chose to betray her opponents during voting in the AB games. While it may have been naive of her, she wanted everyone to get out of the warehouse they were trapped in.

Apart from that, Luna is an introvert; most likely it's connected to the fact that she must be careful not to share the information concerning the project, but it's not just that. During all her life prior to the Nonary Game, she met just three persons: Sigma Klim, Akane Kurashiki, and Kyle Klim. Given the fact that Sigma and Akane were busy with preparing the setting of the upcoming Nonary Game and Kyle wasn't fond of her company (he always wanted a human mother, so he was disappointed when he realized that she was just a robot and didn't want to spend time with her)—which simply means that she had no one to talk to and felt lonely. Probably that's why she's so shy when she's around the participants of the game—growing up as an AI in such environment must have affected her personality in one way or another, after all.

Even though she's shown to be a pacifist who would like to get along with everyone and tries to avoid fighting as much as possible, Luna can be a retaliating individual as well; her reactions to Sigma betraying her are good examples. When that happened, Luna didn't hesitate to take Quark and go through the ninth door with him thus making the Nonary Game come to an end and leaving the rest of the participants trapped inside forever. At the same time, when someone else decided to betray her, she would feel heartbroken and would become even more withdrawn.

However, she wouldn't go to such extremes as in Sigma's case. That's simply because she managed to develop feelings for him, something he never planned to implement in the first place. Yet somehow, Luna has a crush on Sigma—her GAULEM ID password is MILKEVOLI which is I LOVE KLIM but reversed and she keeps the caged bluebird necklace she received from him with herself at all times—and while it's unrequited, she seems to cherish that feeling as it makes her even more human.

Because, apparently, Luna strives to resemble humans as much as possible since she sees herself as "just a machine - a jumble of metal and plastic that pretends to be real" and while she is just a machine, ironically she doesn't notice how human-like she has become over the course of time. When she was about to die in Luna END, she admitted that she was scared of death (or, more accurately, permanent deactivation) and that she didn't want to lose her memories which would be deleted after the deactivating process would be complete—a simple robot wouldn't probably think about such things and certainly wouldn't be able to feel such a strong emotion as fear. What is more, Phi even theorized that the whole Nonary Game's purpose might have been to check if Luna would or wouldn't be found out to be a machine. While it might have been a test for her, the main purpose was quite different.

All in all, while Luna was just trying to follow the Three Laws of Robotics she had been programmed with, she came off as more human than most of the people that had to take part in the Nonary Game. That being said, no matter how much she resembles a human, she still remains a robot that was programmed to act like a human being—even though she managed to develop more complicated feelings as love or fear, she obviously can never become truly human.

Skills/Abilities: Luna admits to having medical license (and is able to operate medical equipment) and is said to be installed with a medical database; apart from that, as a GAULEM (which were used mainly for manual labor, by the way) she's stronger than a woman in her age would be (for example in Luna's END she was ordered to move old woman's body), never gets tired or sick and the only way to physically hurt her is to damage her processors.

Magic Weapon: Moonshine. A bracelet and ring set decorated with two moonstones for better mana conductivity. This accessory allows Luna to launch mana projectiles that inflict no damage whatsoever. Instead, the projectiles are able to put the target(s) to sleep. At first, it will be just one target and the time period will be fairly short, however, upon mastery she'll be able to launch more projectiles at the same time and the sleep status will last much longer. Somehow, the targets are always dreaming happy dreams...

Carrier: Bluebird. Registered user is Moony. A mechanical bird resembling a mountain bluebird. Nicknamed Milk by Luna but, ironically, it really hates milk. It sings only around the people it truly likes and follows its owner everywhere.
